About Birmingham Anime Film Festival 2025: Perfect Blue
Satoshi Kon's 1997 anime thriller is beautiful and brutal in equal measure – loosely based on the novel by Yoshikazu Takeuchiny and following the career of pop idol turned actress Mima Kirigoe.
Deciding to leave her J-pop group, Mima takes on a role in a violent detective drama which upsets fans used to her clean-cut image and she becomes the victim of an obsessive stalker. When a series of gruesome murders take place, reality and fantasy begin to blur and Mima loses her grip on reality.
