Two people stand on a grassy coastal clifftop on an overcast day. On the left, an older man in a blue windbreaker jacket and red roll-neck top wears glasses. On the right, an older woman wears a traditional grey knitted shawl with red and black zigzag pattern, a white lace cap, and a brooch. Behind them, a small flock of sheep grazes on the grass, with dramatic rocky sea cliffs and a grey, choppy bay in the background.

About It’s Nice Up North + Q&A

A special 20th-anniversary screening tour of Graham Fellows’ much loved comedy documentary It’s Nice Up North, presented as a tribute to the late Martin Parr, the celebrated photographer who shot the movie and whose distinctive eye is central to the movie’s charm and enduring appeal.

The film follows Fellows’ alter ego - the legendary comic character John Shuttleworth - on a gently absurd journey through the Shetland Islands to test the theory that the further north you go, the nicer people become.

Graham Fellows will be in attendance for a post-screening Q&A, play hitherto unseen footage, and to discuss his on and off screen relationship with Martin Parr and how the photographer chose to adapt his legendary techniques to a film camera and crew on a remote Scottish island.
