About Space: 1999 - 4K Restoration Double Bill
A spectacular cinematic event for fans of classic science fiction, this Space: 1999 double bill brings together debut episode Breakaway and the acclaimed second-season opener Metamorph.
Featuring ground-breaking visual effects in the unmistakable style of Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, these two landmark episodes mark the beginning of a new era of science-fiction.
Making their worldwide debut in stunning 4K UHD, both episodes have been meticulously restored from the best surviving film elements.
Breakaway
When a series of devastating explosions erupts across the Moon's nuclear waste disposal sites, Moonbase Alpha is plunged into chaos. As Commander John Koenig and his crew struggle to contain the disaster, a catastrophic blast sends the Moon hurtling out of Earth's orbit and into the depths of space. Cut off from home and facing an uncertain future, the Alphans begin an extraordinary journey into the unknown.
Metamorph
The inhabitants of Moonbase Alpha encounter the strange planet Psychon and its brilliant but ruthless ruler, Mentor (Brian Blessed). When Maya, Mentor's daughter, joins the Alphans, they discover her extraordinary ability to transform into any living creature. But as Mentor pursues his own dangerous ambitions, Maya and the crew must fight to protect both Alpha and the future of her people.
The screening will be introduced by award winning journalist and broadcaster Samira Khan. She presents Front Row on Radio 4, Newswatch on BBC1 and co-hosts the vintage TV podcast Through The Square Window. In 2019, Samira became Celebrity Mastermind Champion of Champions with Space: 1999 as her specialist subject.
