About Creative Textiles for Young People (YP107 Spring)

Learn how to create a variety of textile pieces while developing a wide range of practical creative skills.

What will you learn on this course?

This course offers a broad introduction to the exciting world of textiles. Learn techniques such as sewing, knitting, weaving, crochet, fabric printing and much more to create simple projects like bags, scarves and decorative pieces.

The course is delivered through a mix of tutor demonstrations and practical activities allowing you to create samples and build your techniques. Develop practical skills for life such as repairing clothing, sewing on a button and making gifts for friends and family.

You will have the opportunity to design and create simple project pieces ranging from functional items of clothing to decorative pieces or toys.

The course provides a fun and creative environment which will encourage young people's creativity and discovery exploring the medium of textiles.

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for children aged 12 to 17 years. It is open to all levels. Those with little or no experience of pottery will be shown demonstrations for the various techniques used, and those with previous experience will be able to self-direct their work with guidance from the tutor.

The course is accessible for young people of all abilities. You do need dexterity in your hands to work with textiles. The room is wheelchair accessible. A parent or companion may attend to assist; carers must book a complimentary ticket if attending to provide support. Please contact us to discuss your specific access needs.

Age ranges are set carefully to consider key age developments, materials being used, and course stimulus. It is very important that age ranges are not too large or across key stages and therefor need to be adhered to.
