About Gothic Illustration (CSC106)

Explore grotesque beauty and practice your drawing skills by tapping into Gothic art style.

What will you learn on this course?

Influenced by macabre art, this course will focus on the more gruesome elements of nature, and participants will be given the opportunity to add a ghastly touch to their illustrations and drawings.

Working with charcoals, ink and acrylic paint, create a tryptic of gothic themed original illustrations inspired by the scariest day of the year! You will also learn how to tint paper and work from historic images and art work.

You will be encouraged to create moody illustrations of still life, unapologetically gory portraits, or mythical creatures through the combination of different art techniques and subjects. The goal is to discover beauty in unexpected places and blur the line between comforting allure and relatively ugly, unpleasant things.

The tutor will guide you through the drawing process and will offer one-to-one support when needed. This course is open to all levels and no previous experience is required.
