Wooden blocks with intricate designs engraved on them, used for printing on various materials

About Inspired by India: Block Printed Notebook (ASC117)

Make and decorate a simple book and cloth bag to keep it in, inspired by the rich colours and designs from India.

What will you learn on this course?

Inspired by MAC’s exhibition The Offbeat Sari, create two items in this one-day workshop.

Using traditional carved wooden blocks brought back from Jaipur, learners will experiment printing on card, paper and fabric.

Using your beautiful samples, you will learn simple stitched notebook making techniques. In the afternoon we will machine stitch a matching simple cloth bag to keep your book in, all adorned with hand stitched Indian Kantha stitch.

You’ll learn new techniques including:

  • Block printing
  • Bookmaking

  • Indian Kantha stich

You will aim to have two completed items by the end of the workshop.
