A range of fabric, dyed blue with white patterns on them

About Inspired By India: Indigo Dye Workshop (ASC806)

Indulge in indigo! Indigo is one of the oldest dyes used for colouring fabrics and is still used today to colour jeans. Spend a day experimenting with an indigo dye bath, using several interesting resist techniques to create unique samples.

What will you learn on this course?

This workshop is inspired by MAC’s exhibition The Offbeat Sari, which explores how Indigo is used in South Asian textile production.

Kick the day off experimenting with indigo dye baths and resist techniques to create beautiful blue fabric samples to take home.

Your artist Tutor will introduce you to the work of contemporary textile artists, who adapt these traditional indigo techniques to produce beautiful work.

In the afternoon, you will get the opportunity to be more experimental, using paper and fabrics to create beautiful patterns using different resists, including machine and hand stitch, and batik wax.
