About Inspired by India: Mosaic Mirrors (ASC121)

Create a beautifully decorated mirror taking inspiration from colours and patterns used in South Asian design.

What will you learn on this course?

This workshop is inspired by MAC’s exhibition The Offbeat Sari, which showcases contemporary Indian design.

Begin with a visit to the exhibition to gather ideas for your piece.

You will then work to decorate a round board with a mirror at the centre, suitable for indoor hanging. Your tutor will provide a template design to follow and guide you through all the steps needed to create your finished work.

This course will cover how to:

  • Create a design in preparation for making a mosaic
  • Use tile cutters to cut glass and ceramic tiles safely
  • Understand the adhesives required for an indoor mosaic
  • How to apply the correct adhesives
  • How to grout your finished mosaics
  • Understand what bases you can use for indoor mosaics
  • Where to source your materials

Your mosaic needs to be grouted and will need 24 hours to dry. Hopefully this will be completed in class but could be finished at home or left to dry in our secure cages to collect at a later date.
