About Introduction to Batik (CSC772)
Experience the ancient art of batik, produce designs on fabric with wax and use dyes to add beautiful colour to your creations.
What will you learn on this course?
Batik is a dyeing technique using wax resist, originating from South East Asia and can be used to create uniquely patterned fabric.
Children will learn the art of batik-tulis, the most traditional form of hand-painted batik using a specialist ‘tjanting tool’ to draw patterns with hot wax. Explore dip-dyeing fabric with both chemical and natural plant dyes to experiment with the results.
Participants will create a range of samples for display or to create simple handsewn textile pieces like a cloth purse.
