About Life Drawing for Beginners (ASC162)

Working directly from a life (nude) model and learn how to use scale, proportion, and composition to draw the human form.

What will you learn on this course?

Join us for a morning of life drawing where you will learn how to represent the human form when drawing and painting.

This workshop takes inspiration from the exhibition, Made at MAC: Capturing the Human Form (open Sat 4 Jul 2026 - Sun 24 Jan 2027) which explores the many ways artists have created work with or inspired by our bodies.

You will be introduced to a range of techniques and materials that will allow you to explore different interpretations and styles when working from a life (nude) model.

This course covers:
•    Drawing Mediums (charcoal, pencil, pastel)
•    Drawing Techniques (scale, proportion, light & shade effects, composition)
•    Being experimental

The tutor will set short poses and group tasks as you learn the various techniques and develop your skills. The tutor will also set longer poses, allowing you to experiment with what you have learned and begin to develop your own particular style or approach.

The class includes group tuition and one-to-one support from the tutor. Guidance will be tailored to your level of experience to help you achieve your aims for your work. In addition to practical drawing and painting techniques, the course focuses on creative skills, artistic knowledge, and self-confidence.

If you get the bug you may like to join one of our 12-week Life Drawing courses.
