About Sound Mapping and Deep Listening Techniques (ASC124)

Sound maps are a simple, fun and impactful tool for noting the sounds of an environment. Led by sound artist Neil Milton, this one-day course will show you what sound maps are, how to make your own and how to apply deep listening techniques to everyday life. Perfect for those looking to slow down, tune in and focus more consciously on the world around them!

What will you learn on this course?

During this one-day course you will learn:

  • How we hear sound, and the differences between hearing and listening
  • A brief introduction to sound art theory and its pioneers
  • How to use sound art techniques including acousmatic listening and deep listening
  • An introduction to sound walks and sound maps
  • Create your own sound map from a walk around Cannon Hill Park
  • Share your recordings and maps online

Who is this course for?

This course is suitable for adults aged 18+ years. It is open to beginners with no previous experience as full instruction and guidance is given.
