About Here To Stay: British Pakistanis, Belonging and the Making of Modern Britain

Birmingham is home to one of the largest British Pakistani communities in Europe, yet the stories, struggles and contributions of British Pakistanis are too often overlooked or misunderstood. This timely discussion brings together leading writers and researchers to explore the history, resilience and impact of British Pakistani communities, with a particular focus on the experiences of British Pakistani and Pakistani Kashmiri women.

At a time when negative stereotypes continue to shape public discourse, this event offers an opportunity to celebrate the rich cultural, social and political contributions of British Pakistanis while examining themes of migration, identity, belonging and representation.

The panel features journalist and historian Taj Ali, author of the forthcoming book Come What May, We're Here to Stay, which explores the history of British South Asian activism and resistance, alongside researcher Aleena Din whose work focuses on the histories and lived experiences of Pakistani Kashmiri women in Britain.
