About Surreal Creatures Collage (CSC287)
Join us for this three-day course inspired by our Surreal Creatures Family Art Trail.
What you will learn on this course?
Inspired by our Surreal Creatures Trail and our exhibitions exploring surrealist artists, including Emmy Bridgwater and the Birmingham Surrealists and Surreal Solihull join this imagination igniting course and become a surreal artist yourself!
Did you know you can make a brand-new creature out of old pictures?
Using images harvested from old books and encyclopaedias you will make surreal collage characters and Dada-esque ‘drawings with scissors’ with collagist Niall Singh.
At a time when the world was suffering through WWI, the Dada movement emerged, with artists breaking all the rules of formal ‘art’. Dada artists like Hannah Hoch used photo montaging to make new work out of old images. Playful, silly, rule breaking, and sometimes even rude, Dada art was designed to surprise!
Participants will gain an understanding of:
• Who the Dada artists were
• How to use scale, proportion and geometry for maximum visual impact
• How to use colour, texture and typography in your designs
• Refining craft skills in the creation of collage designs by hand
This course is a great way to get a very different art experience honing in on one specific area of art making.
By the end of the course participants will have developed their understanding of collage, learned new techniques and gained confidence with their art making, all within a fun and friendly environment.
Participants will be able to take their work home at the end of the course to show off to their family and friends.
