Building update

Tue 3 October 2023

Updated 16.11.2023

We have recently identified the presence of RAAC in isolated sections of our old roof in our Main Theatre, Weston Studio, and Painting and Drawing Studio.

As a sensible, precautionary measure, we have temporarily closed our Theatre and Weston Studio while we undertake the essential building work required.

Our Painting and Drawing Studio has been approved as safe for use by specialist Structural Engineers and has now reopened with the required measures in place.

MAC remains open as usual to the public – from 9am to late.

We will be making use of our other flexible, unique spaces to limit disruption to our programme and will reschedule or move events that are affected this season. We are liaising closely with our partner companies, artists and performers. Due to venue capacity and artist availability, we may need to cancel specific events as a last resort.

Our Christmas show, Motionhouse: Starchitects Save Santa, will now take place in a purpose-built theatre in MAC's First Floor Gallery.

Please note that our Sales and Events team are contacting customers who have purchased tickets for affected events or courses to inform them about available options.

Please see our FAQs below before contacting our team. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we make necessary adaptations. We will issue further updates on this page.

FAQs

• I have tickets to an event in the theatre over the next few months. What do I need to do?

All shows, courses and events due to take place in the theatre over the coming months will be moved to a different location at MAC wherever possible. For postponed or cancelled events, customers will be contacted individually by our team regarding their affected bookings. Our Sales and Events team are working hard to contact customers as quickly as possible.

Please wait for our team to contact you regarding your affected booking with your available options. Thank you.

• What are my options for relocated, rescheduled or cancelled events?

For relocated or rescheduled shows and courses, tickets will be automatically transferred to the new location or date. We will offer ticket holders for any cancelled or rescheduled shows and courses the opportunity to exchange their tickets for MAC credit, or a full refund. MAC credit means you can choose to place the cost of your ticket(s) on your account for future bookings. Please consider opting for MAC credit to support our charity during this time.

For event hire bookings, our friendly Hires team will be in touch to discuss your booking.

• I have requested a refund – when can I expect this?

Please note that it may take a few days for us to process your refund request. If you have booked multiple events that have now been cancelled, you will receive a separate email per event to arrange your refunds.
